This beginner’s guide to photography seems like a good start, but since I’m a beginner I can’t tell if its really good or not. I want to lean on the side of saying its informative and seems to be accurate, but I speak from a slightly uninformed position. Anyway, your mileage may vary.
I ran across these set of pictures and they really made an impression on me. Not only because they are, in my humble opinion, aesthetically pleasing pictures, but because the subject content was pretty moving. Its not every day you get to see what some of the less fortunate live like. While I don’t feel it inspires pity, for me, it reminds me of the indomitable human spirit.
So, more and more we are inundated with images that are altered using digital imaging tools. At times, its hard to determine which images have been altered and which have not. Now thanks to a new technique, its going to be even tougher. The technique is so clever because is so relatively simple. Aptly named “seam carving“, this new method produces some very impressive results.
You can now get your hands on a Windows based application for doing this technique. I haven’t tried it out myself, but if you give it a whirl, let me know how it goes.
Added a new screenshot to the Postcards from WoW section. As some of you may know the picture is of the famous Dancing Troll Village, that is off limits to normal adventurers. It can be seen while flying en route to and from certain locations such as Dark Shore/Auberdine and Moonglade. I decided to take a picture of it from a less common angle. Sadly with the outland expansion and the introduction of flying mounts, there are not very many interesting exploreable areas left. The Old World (eastern kingdoms and kalimdor) still hold a few more secrets I’m sure. Maybe I’ll poke around there some, who knows.
Here’s some amazing moves from some people who won’t let being disabled keep them down. Fantastic stuff!
I’ve added the Postcards from WoW section finally. It contains my exploration into places that piqued my interest. I will be adding more pictures as the weeks go by.
Well I finally started to pour over the pictures I took at RenFettish (read: renaissance festival), all 700+. I might have gone a bit overboard. But I’m glad I have more pictures than less. I don’t think I “missed” anything I was shooting for. Here’s the pics minus the Medievael Baebes (those I still haven’t finished sorted through yet).
I took these pics while playing around with different settings on the camera. Figured they felt kinda “artsy”. Record players are awesome for older works, like old jazz and country. The ambient feel is just so different from digital recording. There so much more warmth from records. Speaking of which I recently got two live records of Johnny Cash in mint condition, first pressing. While they’re not worth a lot financially, its still pretty damn cool.
I’ve recently been seeing a lot of publicity of the Andrew Sisters. One of their more popular works Bei Mir Bistu Sheinis my favorite by them so far. Here’s the Puppini Sisters performing Kate Bush’s seminal work Wuthering Heights in the style of The Andrew Sisters. Got that? Yeah I had to think about it for a second too.
I think I’ve got a really good idea for a new superhero duo. The mighty tardigrade and his sidekick the indominable isopod! I can see the breakfast cereal already. Giant isopod shaped marshmellows… mmm whole grain goodness. Turns the milk into dayglow orange color!
On a completely unrelated note, my raid finally took a dive so I won’t be able to post pictures from my most recent assignment I’ve been working on. Should be back up next week when the parts come in, so I’ll post it then. Till then, amuse yourself with shadow puppets and whimsical fantasies of grand adventure.
This is an old one, but i saw it recently and it made me chuckle.
We’ve got a new photo assignment courtesy of the man behind the curtain at cult-of-tech.net. Its got to do with shooting a shot with only 5 tries. In essence getting the exposure, composition and metering right for a shot but you only get 5 tries. Any more and you move on to another subject. I’ll post my attempts later this week. I know its already Wednesday, so I don’t have much time left. Assignment details.
